The 420 holiday is coming soon to Staten Island! At ZenZest, we are eagerly awaiting the day that the cannabis community comes together to celebrate our favorite herb. We have lots planned to commemorate April 20th this year and are inviting the surrounding community to our dispensary.
What is 4/20?
The term 420 originated decades ago in California. In San Rafael, a group of teens called the “Waldos” used the 420 phrase as a code to discuss pot. They initially came up with the number because they would meet after school at 4:20 to search for an abandoned weed crop. Rumor has it that the high schooners never did find the hidden farm. Later, 420 became slang to describe smoking pot together. The story was reported in a 1990s “High Times” article and is the most widely accepted 420 origin story. The 420 term spread nationwide once one of the Waldos joined the band the Grateful Dead as a roadie. At concerts, fans would pass flyers inviting others to meet at “4:20 for 4-20ing.”
Eventually, April 20th became a date used for advocacy purposes. Protests would be held on the day, and people would smoke pot in public as a form of civil disobedience. Protests and educational forums helped pave the way for the legalization of cannabis at the state level. Advocacy efforts continue today to push for cannabis legalization at the federal level.
The 4/20 2025 Celebration at ZenZest

- Tasty Eats: We know you’ll be hungry as you hang out at our dispensary throughout the weekend of 420. We have booked vendors to come out and offer up some delicious food to keep the munchies away.
- Exclusive Giveaways: One of the highlights of our 420 weekend events will be the special giveaways. Enter to win merchandise, products, gift cards, and more. We will have plenty of swag exclusive to our yearly 420 celebration.
Getting into the 4/20 Spirit in Staten Island
Make sure to stop at our dispensary anytime during the week of 420 to score the best deals. We are available Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., or Sunday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. We are located at 2343 Forest Avenue, Store #3 in Staten Island. We offer specialized ordering options, including online ordering and delivery services.
